On May 24th 2000, days before the release of his album (Power of the Dollar) 50 Cent was shot 9 times in Queens, New York outside his grandmother's home. He managed to survive but was dropped from his label & the album was never released. In 2002, Eminem listened to a copy of 50 Cent's mixtape Guess Who's Back? & after being impressed with the mixtape, Eminem invited 50 Cent to Los Angeles where he was introduced to Dr. Dre whom he signed a one million dollar record deal with. Get Rich or Die Tryin' was recorded between June 2002 – January 2003 & subsequently released February 6, 2003 by Shady Records, Aftermath Entertainment, Interscope Records and Universal Music Group. The album debuted and peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its 1st week.
